Day 1-Arrival
Welcome to Costa Rica! We will be organizing a shuttle bus from the airport to Puerto Viejo, so please try to arrive in San Jose on the early afternoon 12 pm flight. When we arrive at the cabins we'll enjoy fresh tropical fruit drinks and get started on our first intro workshop where you'll learn how to survive the tropics without chemicals. We'll mix our own insect repellent/anti-aging body oil and discuss the positive aspects of living a life that is pure and natural.
Did you know Costa Rica's national motto is Pura Vida?
(translated it means pure life, but is a commonly used to confirm that "all is good")
Day 2-Settle In...
This is your day of rest, get settled in and relax in your beach front house!
There are plenty of things to do in the area, such as such as ziplining ($55), a chocolate tour, horseback riding, or just chilling by the beach.. Many attendees rent a bike for the week to explore the nearby towns and various beaches along the coast.
Day 3-Hand-Loom Weaving
Using locally made looms for sustainable wood, we'll learn to weave a strap for a belt, bag, or jewelry. Everyone will have their own loom to use as long as they want for the rest of the week.
Day 4-Batik and Scarf Painting
Explore various silk painting and batik techniques from traditional resists to stamping and painting to create your unique expression on your very own silk scarf.
Day 5-Talamanca Natural Dye and Fiber Studio visit
Pastora Jackson is one of only 20 surviving Bri-Bri artisans in the Talamanca area who still use natural dyes in their process. Today we experience an intimate session in Pastora's studio. She will show us how she harvests and dyes the natural fibers that she and her daughter work with. We'll each then get a lesson on her techniques and get to make a jewelry with her authentic organic fibers.
Day 6-Introduction to Ethical Entrepreneurship
After an inspiring week learning about artisan collaboration, hand painting and weaving, we will explore the many options to turn your passion in ethical fashion into a career or philanthropic venture. Through this intimate mastermind session we will get clear on our individual and career goals. We will discuss the ways in which we can all take some action and begin to live our lives more in tune with our ideals. Always open to the full range of possibilities, but strategically action-focused on the real world skills and habits necessary to take an idea into fruition. Our learner driven activities will develop the increased resilience so crucial to achieving the outcomes you desire. All workshop attendees will receive a follow-up session to solidify the experience as more that just "inspirational" but lasting and truly impactful.
Day 7-Giving Back
On our last full day attendees have the opportunity to give back to the local community, with an optional visit to the local Jaguar rescue center, or local public art school, we will have the opportunity to give our thanks to the local community whose beautiful and "pura vida" philosophy will have touched our lives.
*optional donation of art supplies to local school and visit to the Jaguar rescue center are often highlights for attendees.
